The Governor plans to cut $5 billion from education
over the next 18 months because of the budget crisis.
I suggest we accomplish some of this by dumping the
High School Exit Exam.  

There is no evidence that the exam does any good:
Research shows that high school teachers’ grades are
a better predictor of college success than
standardized tests. 

California spends about $250 million each year just
for remedial instruction for this exam, and millions
more for administration and scoring.  Keeping this
exam and cutting programs known to be effective is
like weighing the animal but not feeding it.
